Ostomy

Conditions We Treat
Supporting Health, Healing, and Confidence

At Advanced Wound, Ostomy & Continence Care, we understand that living with an ostomy can be both a physical and emotional adjustment. An ostomy is a surgically created opening on the abdomen that allows waste to leave the body when the normal function of the bowel or bladder is impaired. While it is often a life-saving procedure, it can also bring new challenges related to daily routines, comfort, and self-image. Our team is dedicated to helping patients adapt, heal, and regain confidence through personalized ostomy care and education.

An ostomy may be temporary or permanent, depending on the underlying medical need. Conditions such as colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, trauma, or bladder dysfunction may require the creation of a colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy. Although each type of ostomy functions differently, they all involve managing an external pouching system to collect bodily waste. Beyond the physical changes, many individuals also face emotional concerns, lifestyle adjustments, and questions about how an ostomy will impact their daily lives.

Our Approach to Ostomy Care

We provide comprehensive, compassionate care that focuses on both the physical management of the stoma and the emotional well-being of each patient. This includes stoma site evaluation, skin and wound management, proper fitting and use of ostomy appliances, and practical education on maintaining independence. Our certified wound, ostomy, and continence (WOC) nurses guide patients through each step, helping them feel comfortable and empowered in their self-care.
